- Handling the Crowds: Alberobello’s unique charm means it attracts a lot of visitors, especially during peak season. To enjoy the town when it’s a bit quieter and more peaceful, try to explore early in the morning or later in the afternoon/early evening, avoiding the main rush of day-trip groups.
- What are Trulli?: Those unique, cone-roofed white buildings you see everywhere are called trulli (the singular is trullo). They are the defining feature of Alberobello.
When is the Ideal Time to Go to Alberobello?

Church of Saint Lucia Viewpoint (Belvedere Santa Lucia): For arguably the best panoramic view over the dense clusters of trulli rooftops, head to the terrace balcony next to the Church of Saint Lucia. It’s a popular spot, so you might have to wait a moment, but the photo opportunity is worth it.
Rione Aia Piccola: This is a charming, slightly quieter neighbourhood featuring around 400 trulli. Its winding lanes offer a lovely experience with fewer crowds compared to the main district.
Rione Monti: This is the larger and more famous trulli district, home to over 1,000 of the cone-roofed houses. It feels incredibly picturesque, like walking through a storybook village. It’s best enjoyed early morning or late afternoon to miss the biggest crowds. Many trulli here now house souvenir shops, cafes, and artisan workshops.
Trullo Siamese: Keep an eye out for this unique structure – the only trullo in town built with two connected cones. It now houses a small shop, and the steps outside are a popular photo spot.
Via Monte San Michele: While Alberobello has many charming streets, this is one of the main pedestrian lanes through Rione Monti. It’s lined with trulli converted into shops but can get very crowded by late morning.

Romantic Trulli: A very popular choice for those wanting an authentic trullo experience. These are well-maintained, charming trulli known for their character and stone features. Excellent location for walking everywhere. (Book well in advance if possible!).
Suite21: A lovely trullo option situated just slightly outside the main pedestrian area, but still within easy walking distance of everything. It retains traditional Apulian character (stone alcoves, vaulted ceilings) and often includes a parking space, which is a big plus in Alberobello.

Getting Around Alberobello
The historic center (Centro Storico), particularly the Rione Monti and Rione Aia Piccola areas, is best explored entirely on foot. It’s mostly pedestrianized. The key is to find parking first and then walk.
How to Get to Alberobello
- Flying In: The nearest airports are Bari (BRI) and Brindisi (BDS). Both serve domestic and some international flights. Car rentals are available at both airports. The drive from either Bari or Brindisi to Alberobello takes about an hour.
- Arriving by Train: Alberobello has its own train station. It’s located in the modern part of town, about a 5-10 minute walk from the start of the main trulli zone (Centro Storico).
- Driving to Alberobello: If you come by car, you’ll need to park outside the historic pedestrian zones. There are several paid parking lots (parcheggi) and metered street parking spaces available around the edges of the Centro Storico. Arriving earlier in the day generally makes finding parking easier.
